How to Choose Image Dimensions for Social Media

Why one size does not fit every placement, how cover-fit cropping works, and why you must verify current specifications.

Every placement has its own shape: a square post, a tall story, a wide cover. Using one image for all of them means some version will be cropped by the platform itself, often in the worst place.

The reliable workflow is: start from a large original, then export one version per placement with the UMARIX Social Media Image Resizer. Keep faces and text away from the edges, because cover-fit cropping trims edges to fill the exact shape.

Platform specifications change without notice. The sizes in this site are common, widely used dimensions, labelled with that disclaimer. Before publishing an important campaign image, check the platform's current specification.

For text-heavy graphics, export at the platform size or larger and check readability at the size followers will actually see — on a phone, not on a large monitor.

File size matters on social too: large uploads are re-compressed by the platform anyway, so starting from a well-compressed image gives the platform a cleaner file to work with.
