Supported formats and limitations
- Favicons are tiny — fine text and detail will not be readable at 16 pixels. Use a simple, bold design.
- The .ico file contains PNG entries, which all modern browsers support; very old tools expecting BMP entries inside ICO may not read it.
- Limits: 20 MB per file, 100 megapixels, batch maximum 10 files where batch is offered.
Frequently asked questions
Which files do I need on my website?
At minimum, favicon.ico in your site root. The 180-pixel PNG is used by Apple devices and the 192-pixel PNG by Android. Link them in your page head.
